motivation.

Recovery of any form must start with one thing: motivation. It is the single most important factor in a successful recovery, yet it is often the most difficult.

If you don't know your reasons for doing what you're doing, what will keep you from stopping?

It's important to weigh both sides, as well. If you're looking at your motivation to lose weight, you must also look at your motivation to gain weight or to not lose weight. Say you want to lose weight so you can live a longer life, have more energy, and feel comfortable in your body. You must also be able to say that you don't want to lose weight perhaps because you enjoy unhealthy foods, you don't like to exercise, and you don't know if it's worth the effort. Then you must examine both sides carefully, and make your decision and game plan.

motivators to stop self harm.

1. I can't afford stitches.
2. I can't afford antibiotics in case of infection.
3. I can't afford proper bandaging to take care of wounds.
4. So I can go to the beach again.
5. So I don't have to wear sleeves and pants when it's 100+ degrees F.
6. Because it makes my boyfriend worry.
7. Because my family is ashamed of it.
8. Because it's embarrassing when blood seeps through my clothes in public.
9. Because my sisters won't believe that our dog and cats are this violent for much longer.
10. Because these scars are ugly.
11. So I don't hurt myself more seriously than intended.
12. People will judge me because of my scars.
13. So my sisters don't grow up and try the same thing.
14. So people who come over don't accidentally find a razor blade laying around.
15. So I can begin to truly heal.
